CSW 70: Indonesia Emphasises the Importance of Strengthening Family Law
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister for Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, emphasised the importance of strengthening legal protections, justice services, and support systems within families.
“The Indonesian government is committed to advancing justice within the family as a national priority. A just world cannot be built upon unjust families,” said PPPA Minister Arifah Fauzi in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
She assessed that gaps and weaknesses in family law in various countries remain the main obstacles for women to obtain their full rights.
Arifah Fauzi outlined various legal reforms carried out by the Indonesian Government, such as the Sexual Violence Crime Law (UU TPKS), revisions to the Marriage Law, and the Law on Maternal and Child Welfare in the First 1,000 Days of Life.
These reforms are also complemented by strategic initiatives such as the Care Economy Roadmap.
“At the grassroots level, the Family Empowerment and Welfare Mobilisation Team (TP-PKK) plays an important role in strengthening legal awareness and early prevention. Through its community volunteer network, TP-PKK provides legal literacy programmes, facilitates access to protection mechanisms, and serves as the frontline support for women facing challenges related to family justice,” stated Minister Arifah Fauzi.
Furthermore, she said that women’s legal needs are not only about violence cases but also civil matters, such as family disputes or property rights.
Therefore, according to her, strengthening gender-disaggregated data and evidence-based policies is very important so that the justice system can effectively address the realities of women’s lives.
