South Tangerang (Tangsel) Police have uncovered a cross-provincial drug trafficking case on the Bitung-Serpong toll road in Tangsel, Banten. Officers seized approximately 40 kilogrammes of cannabis.

“From the examination, officers discovered evidence in the form of suspected cannabis-type narcotics weighing approximately 40 kilogrammes stored inside the vehicle in question,” said Tangsel Police Chief AKBP Boy Jumalolo at a press conference at Tangsel Police headquarters on Wednesday (18 February 2026).

The case broke open on Friday (13 February), when police received intelligence about suspected drug trafficking via overland routes from Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra, to the Tangsel area. Officers moved in and arrested the suspect, identified by the initials S (33), inside a silver Suzuki APV travel vehicle with registration plate B-1020-EOC.

During further interrogation of S, a cross-provincial drug network was identified. Police subsequently named two additional suspects with the initials FR and EH and placed them on the wanted persons list (DPO).

In the operation, police secured 40 packets of dried cannabis wrapped in brown tape weighing approximately 40 kilogrammes, one red Polo Vienna brand bag, and one silver Suzuki APV four-wheeled vehicle with registration plate B-1020-EOC.

The Arrest

Bitung Highway Patrol Unit Chief Andy Pradana described the moments of the arrest of drug trafficker S on the Bitung-Serpong toll road. The Bitung Highway Patrol coordinated with Tangsel Police and Serpong Sector Police in the operation.

Initially, officers spotted the travel vehicle in question — a Suzuki APV with registration plate B-1020-EOC — passing along the Bitung-Serpong toll road. A joint team then stopped the vehicle and pulled it over for inspection.

“We first spotted it at Kilometre 26 and managed to stop it at Kilometre 24 or 25,” said Andy.

He noted the vehicle was travelling from the direction of Merak towards Jakarta. The suspect was arrested without resistance.

“Thankfully, the first thing we were grateful for was that it was a travel vehicle, so stopping it was very easy. The suspect was also sitting in the very back seat, making it difficult for him to flee. So during the operation that night, there was absolutely no resistance from the suspect,” he said.

The suspect has been charged under Article 114 paragraph 2 and/or Article 111 paragraph 2 of Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 on Narcotics, as amended in Appendix 2 of Law Number 1 of 2026 on criminal sentencing adjustments. The suspect faces the death penalty, life imprisonment, or a prison sentence of between six and twenty years.
