A cross-generational group of figures visited the residence of the 10th and 12th Vice President of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla (JK). So what was discussed?

Kalla said in the meeting that they had agreed on ways to help Indonesia become better. He emphasised that there was no discussion about plans to topple Indonesia.

‘I was invited by friends to speak. One thing we agreed on is how we can find ways to help this country become better. That is the essence. There is no discussion about how we want to bring it down. How the country can be better, because this is a country we all own. Our young generation has it, you have this nation. How to make it better,’ said Jusuf Kalla at his residence, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Saturday, 7 March 2026.

Kalla said the discussion produced ideas, methods and alternatives from various angles for the goal of goodness and progress for Indonesia. He said criticisms and evaluations that the government may need to undertake were also discussed during the meeting.

‘What are the good alternatives? Whether in terms of policy, state finances, business, or in terms of better education. There, we discussed with an agreement that we should develop a good concept to present to the Government. What is required, what should be the evaluation,’ he said.

He said the discussion freed all cross-generational figures from various fields to express their views. However, he emphasised that the aim of the discussion was to make Indonesia better in facing the various situations that occur.

‘But in addition, please feel free to express your own views. Young generation, please share your views. Please, entrepreneurs, share your views. But the essence is how this country can be better. That’s all. We do not intend anything other than making the country better for all of us,’ he said.

‘We are facing a situation where if this country continues on like this, it will face problems in the coming months, perhaps this year, in terms of the economy. We are working to prevent that. That is the essence. Let it not happen,’ he added.

Furthermore, Kalla said he planned to convey the results of the discussion to President Prabowo Subianto. In the discussion, the cross-generational figures expressed their views on the current economic, political and legal conditions in Indonesia.

‘Yes indeed, in addition to that, so that we understand the problems we must face and what we might improve. The intention is, if allowed, to convey it to the President, to present ideas on how we go forward to be better. That will surely be so if permitted,’ he said.

For information, the discussion lasted from 10:00 to 13:45 WIB. It was attended by three civil-society groups from the business world, social movements and government.
