Crimes on the road

From Media Indonesia

I would like to warn motorists to be vigilant when passing the Coca Cola crossroads, intersection of Jl. Perintis Kemerdekaan/Jl. Letjen. Suprapto, Cempaka Putih and Jl. A. Yani/Jl. Yos Sudarso, on the confines of Central and East Jakarta, particularly when the traffic light is red, or when there is a traffic jam.

On Dec. 23, 1995 at about 2:45 p.m. I was driving from Pulogadung to Cempaka Putih. While approaching the Coca Cola intersection I was trapped in a traffic jam, and could only move at a snail's speed. Then I noticed a thin young man in a dirty t- shirt, wearing dark glasses, crossing the road in a flimsy manner. At this time I was concentrating on the vehicles ahead of me, and quite unaware of what the man was doing.

All of a sudden, this man appeared at left side of my car and tried to lift off the wing mirror of my car. I scrambled to get out of the car but another man was pressing against the door and even tried to prise off the right wing mirror. Finally I got out of the car and tried to run after the young men. But they disappeared down a small road leading to Ria-Rio. One of them fell over several times while on the run, and lost a shoe and his dark glasses on the road.

Motorists, be warned!
