Cracking down on economic crime: China arrests hundreds of fugitives overseas
Beijing (ANTARA) - Chinese police have arrested more than 880 economic-crime fugitives who fled overseas, including 38 individuals listed on Interpol’s Red Notice. The arrests have been conducted since 2025 through China’s “Fox Hunt” operation, a targeted campaign against economic-crime fugitives who have fled abroad, said Hua Liebing, director of the Economic Crime Investigation Bureau of the ministry, during a press conference on Wednesday (20 May). In the same period, China’s police have also resolved 128,000 economic-crime cases nationwide, recovering economic losses amounting to 37.5 billion yuan (1 yuan = Rp2,604), Hua added. The police have also resolved more than 1,600 cases and dismantled over 100 cross-regional underground banking networks in an operation to crack down on the use of offshore companies and underground banks to move illegal funds overseas. Meanwhile, the ministry released 20 special economic-crime cases handled by police since 2025, covering areas such as illegal business operations, money laundering, and currency counterfeiting.
