The head of Agusen Village, Ramadhan, met in his village in Gayo Lues, stated that the cows would be slaughtered together with residents that morning, while the meat would be distributed evenly so that every family could enjoy it in the Meugang tradition welcoming Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. “Yes, in total there are four, two cows from residents’ contributions, two cows from Mr President Prabowo. There’s not much that can be said, thank you Sir. We are disaster victims but also happy for Lebaran,” he said. Agusen Village is one of 1,455 villages in Aceh receiving cow aid for the Meugang tradition. Residents who are victims of flash floods in November 2025 expressed appreciation for the President’s attention to their condition. “We are grateful. The government is present, the President who is far away in Jakarta at the centre feels like he is right in the midst of us too,” he said. Agusen Village is an area severely affected by flash floods and landslides at the end of November 2025. This village is inhabited by 279 families spread across four hamlets, namely Toa, Uken, Singah Mule, and Pal15. In Uken Hamlet, 67 family heads lost their homes, while in Singah Mule four houses were swept away. In Toa, three houses were swept away and 25 houses suffered heavy damage. Pal15 Hamlet was isolated for three weeks because the road was buried by landslides, so logistics distribution took quite a long time. Now, 155 family heads occupy temporary housing (huntara) because their houses are damaged or swept away, while the rest choose to repair their old houses by utilising flood debris materials. The arrival of the cows sent by the President is hoped not only to become an Eid feast for residents, but also to become a symbol of the government’s attention to disaster victim communities and the continuation of the Meugang tradition which has become part of the local cultural identity in Gayo Lues.
