Court drops suit against Lippo Shop

TANGERANG (JP): The Tangerang District Court has turned down a lawsuit filed by a customer against Lippo Shop's internet-based shopping website over alleged deception.

The lawyer representing Lippo Shop, Marselina Simatupang, said on Friday that the court has also dropped the plaintiff's demand for Rp 2 billion (US$200,000) in compensation after finding the lawsuit unproven.

The customer, Kusnoro, brought Lippo Shop to court for failing to live up to its promise to deliver 1,600 cartons of cigarettes that he ordered by phone last October. The order was made five times.

In its defense, Lippo Shop said it could not deliver all of Kusnoro's order, citing an agreement between the company and its customers that an order exceeding 1,000 cartons of cigarettes is not allowed due to limited supplies. (41)
