Courier Motorbikes Park on the Footpath in Duren Sawit, Residents Complain that Business Access Is Obstructed
Residents of Jalan Haji Miran in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, have complained that motorbikes belonging to couriers from a local business regularly park on the footpath, encroaching onto the roadway and making it difficult for pedestrians and customers to move. Sidik, 52, a local resident, said the business owner had been warned several times by other traders because the parked motorcycles blocked access in and out of the shops. ‘They’ve often been warned by others; people keep telling them that the access is blocked,’ Sidik said on Wednesday (4/3/2026).
“Even after repeated admonitions, it hasn’t changed. I’ve seen it pointed out many times; even the valve stems of the tyres were repeatedly pulled out by the Department of Transportation (Dishub),” he added. Joko, 53, a trader in the area, echoed the complaint, saying he is often disrupted because access to his business is blocked by vehicles parked haphazardly. “It blocks access, especially since the adjacent area is all business space. I’ve confronted the owner twice already, but the reply is always, ‘Yes, understood,’” he said.
He urged all traders and residents to respect one another so that business activity can run smoothly without causing congestion or conflict. Earlier, motorbike parking that blocked the footpath on Jalan Haji Miran in East Jakarta had gone viral on social media. In a video posted by the Instagram account @jakarta.terkini, a line of motorcycles parked on the footpath could be seen. In addition, a truck suspected of unloading was also seen blocking the pedestrian path in the area.
Based on Kompas.com’s observations at the scene, the vehicles previously parked in front of the shop used by the online shopping service Astro no longer block the footpath.
