Councillor admits to consuming ecstasy
BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: City Council deputy speaker Setyawan D.
Prasodjo admitted during his trial on Monday to consuming ecstasy
shortly before police arrested him last year.
The chairman of the local chapter of the Indonesian Democratic
Party of Struggle (PDI Perjuangan), Setyawan, said he obtained
the ecstasy pill from his colleague Zul. Both were arrested in a
raid on Nirwana Discotheque on Dec. 28 last year.
"It's true judge. I took the pill and swallowed it with water
before I was arrested," Setyawan said during the trial at
Tanjungkarang District Court, which was packed with onlookers.
Police arrested Setyawan and three of his companions at the
discotheque. Police found another pill under the seat on which
the councillor sat.
Four Lampung councillors were also arrested last week for
consuming ecstasy at a karaoke hall in the city.
The councillors' arrests have created indignation among the
public in Lampung and calls for the police to thoroughly
investigate the cases. -- Antara

Cirebon radio reporter missing
CIREBON, Central Java: A reporter from Sindang Kasih radio
station in Cirebon has been reported missing after a group
claiming to be police officers took him away on Sunday night.
The radio's director, Iim, suspects that reporter Toto M.
Said, 30, alias Jamil Permana, has been kidnapped. She did not
say why anybody would want to kidnap him.
Iim said two men visited the radio station on Sunday night and
asked for Jamil's home address. They later returned with Jamil,
who had bruises on his face, and demanded to meet Iim prior to
taking Jamil to the Cirebon Police station.
Iim said the men showed her no arrest warrant and did not
explain the reason for Jamil's arrest.
"They took Jamil away in a car, and up until Monday afternoon
he still cannot be found," Iim said, explaining that she had
tried to confirm his arrest with every police station in Cirebon.
She estimated that there were nine people in the car that took
Jamil away, but only two had entered the radio station.
Cirebon Police chief of detectives Adj. Comr. Taufik Asrori
said the police had not arrested Jamil. -- Antara
