Council calls for speedy probe
KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: The provincial legislative council urged local prosecutors on Monday to quickly speed up the questioning of all of its members over bribery alleged to have occurred during the recent gubernatorial election.
"The council wants the investigations speeded up so the findings over whether legislators are involved or not can be revealed soon," senior councillor Abidin Ramli said.
The investigations have been organized by the Southeast Sulawesi Prosecutor's Office, with between one and four legislators quizzed per week.
Around 25 of the 43 councillors have so far been summoned for questioning in relation to the bribery case.
Abidin said the slow investigation had created "a variety of negative assumptions" among local people against the council.
"I want the prosecutors to prioritize the probe into the legislators, given that resolution of the case is eagerly awaited by the people," he added. --Antara
