The Jakarta Central District Court’s Corruption Court was crowded with family members and supporters of the nine defendants in the alleged corruption case involving the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina (Persero), its subsidiaries, and collaborating contractors (KKKS) during the period of 2018-2023.

According to observations by CNBC Indonesia, the Corruption Court at the Jakarta Central District Court was filled with people wearing matching black and white clothing. Various slogans supporting the defendants were printed on their shirts, ranging from ‘#GodIsJust’, ‘#JusticeExists’, to ‘#GodIsGood’.

The defendants’ supporters were seen filling the lobby, and even the area outside the Corruption Court was crowded with supporters.

In addition, boards with various messages of support for the defendants were displayed in the lobby of the Corruption Court at the Jakarta Central District Court.

As is known, the panel of judges will read out the sentences to one of the defendants, Muhammad Kerry Adrianto Riza, the nephew of oil businessman Mohammad Riza Chalid.

In addition, the former Director of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, Riva Siahaan, the former Director of PT Pertamina International Shipping, Yoki Firnandi, and several other former Pertamina directors are also defendants in the case, which is estimated to have caused state losses of up to Rp 285.18 trillion.

The court hearing today is crucial for the defendants and all those who support them. The sentencing hearing was originally scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM. However, the hearing only started at 3:15 PM.

“At 1:00 PM,” said the Head of the Center for Legal Information (Kapuspenkum) of the Indonesian Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung), Anang Supriatna, when asked about the schedule of the sentencing hearing, to CNBC Indonesia, Thursday (February 26, 2026).

Indeed, after the Public Prosecutor (JPU) presented the indictment on Friday (February 13, 2026), all nine defendants had submitted their defense or plea last week, Thursday (February 19, 2026) evening.

It is worth noting that this sentencing is one year after the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) first named suspects in the alleged corruption case involving the management of crude oil and refinery products at PT Pertamina (Persero), its subsidiaries, and collaborating contractors (KKKS) during the period of 2018-2023. The Attorney General’s Office first announced the suspects in the oil case on Monday (February 24, 2025) evening.

The Attorney General’s Office had named seven people as suspects in this oil corruption case on Monday (February 24, 2025) evening. Two days later, on Wednesday (February 26, 2025), the Attorney General’s Office again named two new suspects in this case. In total, there are 9 suspects - who are now defendants - in the initial announcement by the Attorney General’s Office. Then, on Thursday (July 10, 2025), the Attorney General’s Office again named 9 new suspects in the alleged oil corruption case, including Mohammad Riza Chalid. However, the 9 suspects announced in July 2025 have not yet had their trial proceedings.

The Public Prosecutor’s Indictment

In total, there are nine defendants in the case. For the 6 defendants from the PT PPN, PT PIS, and PT KPI clusters, the Public Prosecutor (JPU) requested a prison sentence of 14 years with a fine of Rp1 billion. Meanwhile, the majority of the restitution requests were for Rp5 billion.

This case includes irregularities from upstream to downstream, which are divided into several clusters, namely the crude oil cluster, BBM imports, ship rentals, and BBM terminal rentals.

The facts of the trial proved that there was collusion between the defendants and officials at PT Pertamina in the process of renting ships and renting BBM storage facilities.

Through the indictment, the state seeks to optimize the recovery of assets if the case has legal force (inkracht), in order to restore the economic impact caused by the illegal acts.
