Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Emphasises Collaboration on Human Resources and Infrastructure in Kalimantan
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development (Menko IPK) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) has emphasised the importance of collaboration between the government and universities in strengthening human resources (HR) and infrastructure development in Kalimantan. He asserted that cross-sectoral synergy is key to the success of national development, particularly in Kalimantan, which has vast natural resource potential. “The government cannot work alone. Collaboration with various parties, including academics, is very much needed. Universities serve as important sources of research and innovation in supporting infrastructure development and economic growth,” AHY stated in his remarks in Jakarta on Tuesday. He explained that the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure prioritises a pentahelix approach involving government, academics, the business world, media, and communities in formulating and implementing development policies. This approach ensures that policies are more targeted and have a real impact on society. “Our approach is outcome- and impact-oriented. Infrastructure must directly contribute to public welfare, including reducing poverty and inequality as well as opening up job opportunities,” he said. AHY also outlined the strategic role of the ministries under his coordination, ranging from agrarian affairs and spatial planning, public works, housing and settlements, transportation, to transmigration, all integrated into regional development. Regarding Kalimantan, he assessed that the region has great opportunities as a new national economic growth centre, especially with its wealth of natural resources and strategic area development in East Kalimantan. “Kalimantan has extraordinary resources. The challenge is to manage them sustainably and add value for society. This is where the role of the Institut Teknologi Kalimantan (ITK) is very strategic in producing superior human resources while promoting research and innovation,” he said. AHY also emphasised the importance of balancing economic growth and environmental sustainability. The concepts of prosperity and sustainability must go hand in hand in every development policy. He expressed commitment to continue opening up collaboration opportunities with ITK and other universities. “We are ready to collaborate. ITK plays an important role as a centre for technology development in Kalimantan and is expected to become a driving force for progress through research and innovation,” AHY stated.
