Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment, Muhaimin Iskandar, held a ministerial-level meeting to discuss extreme poverty in Indonesia. In his presentation, Cak Imin revealed that the extreme poverty rate in 2025 has decreased compared to 2024. “Alhamdulillah, extreme poverty has successfully declined. From 1.26% in March 2024 to 0.78% in September 2025. Approximately 0.48% of the extreme poor population has thankfully moved up a class. Let’s give a round of applause,” said Cak Imin at Plaza Jamsostek, South Jakarta, on Monday, 27 April 2026. This means, according to Cak Imin, the number of extreme poor individuals has become 2.2 million people from previously 3.56 million people. “This is something to be grateful for, while we still have a remaining burden of 2.2 million from the previous 3.56 million people,” he explained. Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto has set a target to achieve 0% extreme poverty in 2026, and a 5% national poverty rate by 2029. On the other hand, Cak Imin stated that 774,000 families in the decile 1 group have not yet received social assistance programmes from the government. Particularly in the regions of Cianjur, Bogor, Cirebon, Kulon Progo, and Garut. In addition, 8.1% of families have not received assistance, and 60.2% of decile 1 families have only received one to two programmes. Cak Imin mentioned that the government continues to create programmes to eradicate poverty. “The priority areas targeted are 16,550 villages/sub-districts,” revealed Cak Imin.
