Jakarta — No single ministry or agency can stand alone. While the Ministry of Public Works, under the coordination of the Coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure, has typically led, the government will instead form a national working team involving various ministries and agencies to prepare Indonesia’s contribution to the 11th World Water Forum (WWF-11). AHY, speaking after the Coordination Meeting to Prepare WWF-11 in Jakarta on Friday, emphasised that water issues are highly complex and cannot be addressed by one institution alone.

‘Tidak ada satu pun K/L yang bisa berdiri sendiri. Walaupun mungkin selama ini yang terdepan tentunya adalah Kementerian Pekerjaan Umum di bawah koordinasi Kemenko Infrastruktur,’ said Coordinating Minister AHY.

Therefore, the government will form a national working team that involves multiple ministries and agencies to draft Indonesia’s contribution to the world water forum. The team is expected to unify various water management policies and programmes to be more integrated and able to provide solutions to various challenges that arise.

The government has also prepared six main themes that will be the focus of Indonesia’s contribution to WWF-11, which will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2027. However, AHY did not detail the six themes. He said the themes are designed to reflect the real challenges Indonesia faces in water management, as well as opportunities for innovation to be offered to the global community.

According to him, water problems in Indonesia are not only about availability but also about disaster management, such as floods that occur when rainfall becomes extreme. On the other hand, in the dry season some regions also face drought risks affecting access to clean water for communities and the needs of the agricultural sector.

The government believes sustainable water management requires cross-sector coordination so that policies can respond to the needs of the people comprehensively. Through strong national collaboration, the government hopes Indonesia’s contribution to WWF-11 will strengthen the country’s role in global efforts to maintain the sustainability of water resources.
