Cooking oil prices in packaged form in Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), have skyrocketed to Rp 23,000 per litre in recent weeks. This increase has immediately drawn complaints from residents due to the significant difference felt during shopping. “Usually, the price per litre is Rp 19,000 to Rp 20,000. But earlier, I paid Rp 23,000 per litre,” said Sherly, one of Mataram’s residents, to detikBali on Friday (17/4/2026). Similar complaints were voiced by Dinda, another Mataram resident. She mentioned that the price of premium oil has risen from around Rp 39,000 to Rp 40,000 for two litres to Rp 44,000 to Rp 45,000. “The increase is quite high,” she said. The Head of Essential Goods and Services (Bapokting) at the Mataram Trade Department, Sri Wahyunida, confirmed the price rise for premium cooking oil. She stated that the surge occurred over the last three weeks. “There has indeed been an increase in cooking oil prices, particularly the premium type. The rise is around Rp 1,800 to Rp 3,000 per litre, for several brands,” said Nida. Her office is still investigating the cause of the price increase and coordinating with the provincial government. “We are conducting monitoring to determine the cause. For now, we will coordinate with the province regarding the reason for this oil price increase. Perhaps from the province (they can) coordinate with the centre, whether this rise is due to an increase in plastic prices or indeed a problem with the distribution system, which we haven’t coordinated yet,” she explained. “From the field side, we will continue to coordinate with distributors,” she added. Amid the premium oil price increase, Nida assured that MinyaKita stock is still available, although its distribution is prioritised for traditional markets. “As for premium oil stock, we see it’s still available at retail. Meanwhile, MinyaKita distribution is still from Bulog to traditional markets. Yesterday we went to retail outlets, and MinyaKita was empty there, but it’s prioritised for traditional markets first,” she emphasised.
