Jakarta - The Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI), Boyamin Saiman, has reported the leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and its enforcement division to the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas), on Wednesday (25/3/2026). The report concerns the controversy surrounding the transfer of detention status for former Minister of Religious Affairs Yaqut Cholil Qoumas in the alleged corruption case of the 2023-2024 hajj quota. Boyamin stated that several points of complaint were submitted to the Dewas KPK. First, the KPK leadership is suspected of allowing external interference without reporting it to the Dewas. “This contradicts the statement by KPK Enforcement Deputy Asep Guntur that YCQ is suffering from GERD and asthma,” he said. Third, KPK Enforcement Deputy Asep Guntur did not conduct tests and health checks through competent doctors when ordering the transfer of Yaqut to house arrest. “In fact, it was only later that Mr Asep Guntur stated that YCQ (Yaqut) suffers from GERD and asthma. YCQ should have undergone a health test before the house arrest transfer was carried out because if something happens regarding his health during house arrest, this will become the responsibility of the KPK,” he explained. Fourth, there is an allegation that the transfer of Yaqut’s house arrest was baseless, as it was not a collective collegial decision by the KPK leadership, rendering it invalid and legally flawed. On that basis, Boyamin requests that the Dewas KPK conduct an ethical examination of the parties involved in approving the detention transfer decision for Yaqut. Furthermore, the Dewas must assess whether the decision complies with the code of ethics, behavioural guidelines for KPK personnel, and good governance principles. “And whether the decision issued already meets the principle of equality before the law, and to convey the results of the examination to the public transparently to maintain public trust in the KPK,” he said. It is known that Yaqut’s detention status was transferred to house arrest on 19 March 2026, after previously being detained at the KPK Detention Centre since 12 March 2026 following his designation as a suspect.
