JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja told members of the team that screens contractors and suppliers not to demand bribes.

"Improve services, don't ask them for anything illegally," he said.

He added that companies applying for certificates of acknowledgement should avoid broker services.

"Company owners must deal directly with officials to avoid any illegal levies," he said, after signing a list of 1,732 companies which passed the first screening stage on Wednesday.

The secretary to the city assistant in charge of development, Prawoto Danoemihardjo, said that 803 of the companies are suppliers, 94 are consultants and 835 are contractors, Antara reported yesterday. (anr)
