Content of Andrie Yunus's Letter: Rejecting Military Court in the Acid Attack Case
Jakarta - Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, Andrie Yunus, wrote two letters from his treatment room at RSCM in Central Jakarta. Both letters were read during a civil society solidarity action in front of the Constitutional Court building on Wednesday (8/4/2026) by Deputy Director of Imparsial, Hussein Ahmad. The letters were handwritten on two sheets of light green paper, approximately 15x20 centimetres in size. The letters show correction scribbles made by Andrie. He signed the letters. The first letter, addressed to the Constitutional Court, particularly to the judges hearing the judicial review of the TNI Law. The attempted murder case through the acid terror against me must be thoroughly investigated, becoming the state’s responsibility through its legal instruments and law enforcement apparatus to ensure such incidents do not recur. Most importantly for me, whoever and with whatever background, whether civilian or military, must be tried through the general court. I object and express a vote of no confidence if the law enforcement process in this case is carried out through the military court, which has long been a nest of impunity for military personnel who commit human rights violations. Our Constitution has affirmed the principle of equality before the law. Therefore, in this case, if not tried in the general court, it constitutes a serious violation of the principle of equality before the law. Andrie Yunus, 5 April 2026. Hussein Ahmad also read the second letter from Andrie Yunus.
