Container trucks impounded
The Jakarta Office of the Ministry of Transportation announced that it has impounded more than 300 container trucks for a series of violations.
Abdul Karim, the head of the office, said the trailer trucks had been impounded because of technical problems, primarily malfunctioning braking systems, or missing vehicle documentation.
The trailer trucks were impounded at a site in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, and at another site on Jl. Pramuka, East Jakarta during the ongoing operation on heavy trucks, which was launched 21 days ago.
"The trucks will be allowed to resume operations if their vehicle documents are completed and their brakes repaired," Abdul Karim said.
The inspection was carried out jointly by the Ministry of Transportation, the police and the City Land Transportation and Traffic Control Agency (DLLAJ).
Abdul said that, at present, there are 2,050 container trucks operating from and to the Tanjung Priok Port everyday. However, he added that approximately 600 of them do meet inspection standards.(arf)
