Container terminal opens
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Transportation Haryanto Dhanutirto
inaugurated a new container terminal at the Panjang port in
Bandar Lampung yesterday and a number of other transportation
projects in Lampung.
The new container terminal, which cost Rp 56.6 billion (US$24
million), provides a 300-meter berth 12 meters in depth, loading
and unloading equipment, gantry cranes and a computerized
documentation system.
Another new facility worth Rp 54 billion is to be developed at
the seaport; it will have a berth 15 meters in depth, a
warehouse, and a container field.
The planned terminal is scheduled to be operational by the end
of 1997, the Antara news agency reported.
The transportation projects also inaugurated yesterday include
the third berth at the Bakauheni sea-crossing facility in
Lampung, a railway station emplacement worth Rp 2.15 billion and
80 railway wagons and other facilities worth Rp 8.5 billion.
