Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Bank Indonesia (BI) reported that the Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) declined in February 2026. The decline was driven by falling consumer expectations index (IEK), whilst the current economic conditions index (IKE) actually rose.

The IKK in February 2026 stood at only 125.2, down from 127 in January 2026. Its component parts showed that the IEK fell significantly from 138.8 to 134.4. Meanwhile, the IKE rose marginally from 115.1 to 115.9.

“The February 2026 Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) at the optimistic level of 125.2, although lower than the previous month’s IKK,” according to Bank Indonesia’s Consumer Survey released on Monday (9 March 2026).

The IEK declined because all of its component indices fell. For instance, income expectations index (IEP) dropped from 146 to 140.7. The job availability expectations index (IEKLK) fell from 135.1 to 131.7 and the business activity expectations index (IEKU) decreased from 135.3 to 130.9.

By contrast, the IKE rose across all its component parts. Current income index (IPSI) increased from 123.7 to 125, job availability index (IKLK) rose from 109.9 to 110.7, and durable goods purchasing index (IPDG) increased from 111.8 to 112.

“In general, consumer confidence regarding current income increased. Based on expenditure levels, the Rp2.1–5 million expenditure group recorded an increase in the index, whilst the Rp1–2 million and above Rp5 million expenditure groups experienced declines,” according to the BI survey.

The Consumer Survey is a monthly survey conducted since October 1999. Since January 2007, the survey has been conducted among approximately 4,600 households across 18 cities: Jakarta, Bandung, Bodebek, Semarang, Surabaya, Medan, Makassar, Bandar Lampung, Palembang, Banjarmasin, Padang, Pontianak, Samarinda, Manado, Denpasar, Mataram, Pangkal Pinang, Ambon and Banten. City indices are calculated using the balance score method (net balance + 100), whereby an index above 100 indicates optimism and below 100 indicates pessimism.
