Construction of Wastewater Treatment Plant in Taman Bendera Pusaka Targeted for Completion in June 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta Water Resources Agency (SDA) is targeting the completion of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (IPAL) construction in Taman Bendera Pusaka, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, in June 2026.
“The target is for the physical construction to be finished by June,” said Glenn Santista, Head of the Wastewater Improvement and Control Subgroup of the Jakarta SDA Agency, when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He stated that the IPAL construction has been carried out by a third party since mid-January 2026.
Furthermore, the IPAL construction is targeted to be completed before the 499th Anniversary of DKI Jakarta on 22 June 2026.
“We apologise for any inconvenience, but cleaning and draining efforts during the construction will continue,” Glenn said.
Contacted separately, Budi Purbadi, Supervisor of Taman Bendera Pusaka, said that the lake construction is not yet fully complete because the SDA Agency is building the IPAL within the park area.
“So, it’s not final yet. Now, the water is no longer dirty, but it’s black. But it should be clean later; we’re still waiting for the IPAL to be finished,” Budi said.
Regarding the management of Taman Bendera Pusaka, he explained that the park section is handled by the Parks and City Forest Agency, while wastewater management or the artificial lake is managed by the SDA Agency.
“The information is that it will be completed in June 2026 or before DKI Jakarta’s Anniversary. Thus, the lake’s condition will surely be cleaner after the IPAL construction is finished,” Budi stated.
He complained about the odour that emerges and the blackened, dirty canal in the newly inaugurated park area.
“I see efforts to eliminate the smell, such as air fresheners attached under the bridge connecting the former Taman Langsat and Taman Leuser. However, it still can’t overcome the smell from the blackened canal,” said Desiarini.
Previously, during the inauguration of Taman Bendera Pusaka some time ago, Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung assured that the lake’s water quality would improve with the completion of the park’s facilities.
“So, the water on the surface will be clear, like in Korea, because the dirty water goes underneath. Anyway, it will be clear,” Pramono said.
