Jakarta — Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan announced that the waste-to-energy (WtE) programme is scheduled for groundbreaking at four locations in June 2026.

“God willing, June will mark the start of groundbreaking,” Hasan said at a press conference in Jakarta on Thursday.

He noted that the Danantara Investment Management Agency had already signed contracts for four waste-to-energy facilities across four locations: Denpasar, Bekasi, Bogor, and Yogyakarta.

The Danantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara Indonesia) announced selected partners for the WtE facilities in Bekasi and Denpasar following a comprehensive selection process involving various experienced international companies. Danantara appointed Wangneng Environment Co., Ltd. as the operator for the Bekasi facility and Zhejiang Weiming Environment Protection Co., Ltd. as the operator in Denpasar.

Danantara’s Chief Investment Officer Pandu Sjahrir stated that the agency is working with local governments and all relevant stakeholders to deliver measurable progress in waste reduction and clean energy generation.

Consistent with Presidential Regulation No. 109 of 2025, the appointment forms part of Danantara’s WtE programme aimed at addressing waste challenges by strengthening urban waste management, reducing reliance on landfill disposal, and supporting sustainable energy generation.

In line with Danantara’s dual mandate, the operator partners are required to form consortiums to promote technology transfer, including partnerships with local government-owned enterprises and Indonesian companies. Additionally, Danantara emphasised strong governance from the outset, including transparent selection processes and risk-mitigation-based procedures.

Danantara remains committed to advancing integrated waste management solutions that create positive environmental and social impacts for all Indonesians.
