Constitutional Court ruling on 30% women's quota makes politics more inclusive
The Constitutional Court’s ruling mandating political parties to meet a 30% women’s representation quota in legislative candidacies is seen as strengthening the protection of women’s political rights. The decision also opens greater opportunities for women to take on decision-making roles in parliament.
DPR RI member Cindy Monica welcomed the ruling, stating that women’s participation in politics is not merely about meeting quota numbers but about bringing more inclusive perspectives to policy-making for society.
“Women possess the ability, experience, and social sensitivity crucial for policy-making processes. Therefore, the political arena must become more open and fair for Indonesian women,” Cindy Monica said in a statement on Thursday, 28 May 2026.
Cindy added that the Constitutional Court’s decision demonstrates support for a more representative democracy. Women in parliament are expected to champion issues close to the public, including education, healthcare, child and women’s protection, and family welfare.
“This proves women are not merely supplementary in politics. When given the opportunity, they can serve as leaders and genuine representatives of the people,” said the NasDem Party legislator.
As a female DPR RI member, Cindy Monica urged women to boldly enter politics and directly bring societal aspirations to the national level. She hopes more women, especially the youth, will confidently take on leadership roles in national development.
“Politics must no longer be seen as a limited space for women. Today, women must be present, speak out, and help shape Indonesia’s future,” Cindy said.
