Conglomerates' role
Conglomerates' role
From Media Indonesia
Every entrepreneur aspires for big profits, smooth business
and other successes. To this end, they are ready to invest their
capital anywhere and in whatever line of business, either in
small or large scales.
In this case, the government is quick to give the necessary
assistance and facilitate the business until the entrepreneur
becomes a tycoon.
Recently, this newspaper reported that, in a seminar organized
by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a scholar
said that "the conglomerates have become milk cows."
It that true? On the other hand, some tycoons admitted that
they never had the feeling that they were milked in any way. They
gave just a small portion of their profit to a needy party.
Why don't we stop arguing on this controversial matter and,
instead, ponder over the meaning of the struggle of our patriotic
forefathers for the independence of this beloved country. It is
here the conglomerates can play significant roles, to enhance the
standard of living for the majority of people who are still in
the category of 'living under the poverty line.'
