Condo occupants ask for facilities

JAKARTA (JP): Residents of Mangga Dua Court Condominium in Central Jakarta have asked the developers of the housing estate to provide them with sports facilities which, they say, they are entitled to under their purchase agreements.

The residents visited the Consumer Protection Foundation (YLKI) on Saturday to report that the developer has failed to build tennis courts, a swimming pool, a fitness center and a multi-function room as promised.

Residents spokesman Sudjono said that developer, PT Duta Pertiwi, had failed to honor its promise to build the facilities.

"The company has even changed the multi-function room into a restaurant," he said.

According to the Memorandum of Understanding between PT Duta Pertiwi and the residents, the residents would collectively own the land and any facilities in the apartment complex after paying off their apartments.

The residents have now made all the payments due on the apartments.

Head of the YLKI consumers' complaints department, Sudaryatmo, told The Jakarta Post on Saturday that the residents rights under the agreement must be honored, adding that the YLKI would send a letter to the developer in support of the residents' complaint.

Sudaryatmo said that the State Minister of Public Housing, in his letter number 11/APTS/1994, stipulates that property developers are obliged to hand over all facilities to residents as soon as the latter have completed their payments.

The marketing director of PT Duta Pertiwi, Aking Saputra, declined to comment on the matter when contacted on Saturday.(29)
