As many as 14 people died in the train accident involving the long-distance KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and a KRL at Bekasi Timur Station. The Ministry of Transportation has revealed the complete chronology of the fatal collision.

Here is the chronology based on written information from the Ministry of Transportation:

  • Initially, the KRL on the Bekasi-Cikarang route was delayed by a taxi at the JPL 85 level crossing.

  • As a result of the accident, the KRL trainset had to be evacuated and designated as an extraordinary journey (PLB) with code 5181 because it stopped on duty and operated outside the regular schedule.

  • Officers stopped another KRL trainset with PLB code 5568 heading to Cikarang at the Bekasi Timur Station platform.

  • However, the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek (KA 4) on the Jakarta-Surabaya route did not have time to stop, making a hard collision with the PLB 5568 KRL unavoidable. The KA Argo Bromo penetrated into the women’s carriage of the KRL.

Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi assured that the evacuation and victim handling process was carried out quickly, in a coordinated manner, and with full caution.

Dudy conveyed deep condolences for the fatalities and hoped the injured victims would recover soon. This incident, he continued, serves as an important lesson to improve transportation services.

“We wish to convey our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. And to the injured victims, we hope they will be granted swift recovery,” he said on Tuesday (28/4/2026).

The Ministry of Transportation also fully supports the investigation process carried out by the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT). Dudy emphasised that his side is providing space and awaiting the KNKT to conduct an independent investigation.

“We ask for prayers from the public so that this evacuation process can proceed quickly, safely, and while prioritising safety, as well as saving the victims still inside the train. We also give the KNKT the opportunity to conduct an objective investigation,” said Dudy.

To date, the tallying of the number of victims is still ongoing. Temporary adjustments to KRL operations are only up to Bekasi Station.
