Recently, various community organisations and labour groups in Jakarta expressed their commitment to maintaining public order and security. Together with the Metro Jaya Police, they agreed to reject all forms of anarchic action in order to ensure a peaceful Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.

This commitment was conveyed during a public order security preparedness rally titled ‘Protecting Jakarta for Indonesia’ at the Presisi Field of the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate on Saturday, February 14th. The rally was attended by all senior officials and personnel of the Metro Jaya Police. The participants included representatives from security guard associations, online motorcycle taxi associations, neighbourhood watch groups, labour unions, community organisations, as well as scouts and students.

They also read out a Public Order Security Declaration as evidence of their commitment to protecting Jakarta from anarchic actions. The declaration was read by a representative from one of the community organisations.

Here is the text of the declaration:

Public Order Security Declaration. In protecting Jakarta for Indonesia, we, the community groups of Jakarta, declare the following:

First, together with the Police, we firmly reject all forms of anarchic action, vandalism, and public disturbance.

Second, we support the Police’s firm action in creating a safe, orderly, and conducive situation.

Third, we are ready to report any threats and actions of anarchic groups, vandalism, and public disturbance.

Fourth, we are ready to support the President’s programmes to improve the country’s economy and the welfare of the people.

Fifth, we are ready to work together to protect the environment, protect the community, uphold the rules, and fulfil our responsibilities in protecting Jakarta for Indonesia.

Message from the Chief of Police

This rally was led directly by the Chief of the Metro Jaya Police, Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri. He invited all community groups to work together to contribute to maintaining the environment in order to create a measurable, coordinated, and sustainable situation.

“This rally is part of our preparedness in welcoming the holy month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah, so that all community activities can take place in a safe, orderly, peaceful, and conducive manner,” said Asep.

“As the theme we carry, ‘Protecting Jakarta for Indonesia’, means the spirit to protect our region from various potential threats and disturbances so that the city of Jakarta, as the face of the nation, can maintain its safety,” he continued.

Asep explained that a conducive environment can only be achieved if all elements move in one frequency and under one command to protect each other, remind each other, and support each other in the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.

“I invite us all to work together to make a real contribution in creating security and order in our environment,” said Asep.

The two-star general also invited all community groups to prove that Ramadan is not only a moment for worship but also a moment to maintain social harmony in the community. Inspector General Asep emphasised the importance of collective commitment so that all community worship activities can run smoothly and peacefully.

“I invite us all to work together to prove that Ramadan is not only a moment for worship, but also a month when social harmony is truly present, both in the village, on the streets, at work, and in the digital space,” he said.

On this occasion, Inspector General Asep also instructed his staff and all security partners to increase vigilance through neighbourhood watch groups and community security groups. This step was taken to prevent potential disturbances such as brawls or conflicts between residents that often occur during the fasting month.

“Activate environmental vigilance. Take early preventive measures against potential brawls, conflicts, and other disturbances,” he stressed.

In addition to physical security, he also reminded the public to be wise in using social media. He asked residents not to be easily provoked by hoaxes during the holy month.

“Obey the rules, respect each other, maintain good behaviour in public spaces, and maintain ethics in the digital space. Filter information before sharing it,” he said.
