Community Involved in TPPO Detection
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The Jakarta East Class I TPI Immigration Office is strengthening the prevention of human trafficking offences (TPPO) and people smuggling offences (TPPM) through an area-based approach. This effort involves engaging sub-district apparatus and the community in early detection of potential violations.
The socialization event for the Immigration Mentoring Village Programme was held in Cipinang Muara sub-district on Tuesday (21/4/2026). The event also included the signing of a memorandum of understanding among related agencies regarding the handling of TPPO and TPPM.
Head of the Jakarta Immigration Region Office, Directorate General of Immigration, DKI Jakarta, Pamuji Rahardja, stated that strengthening immigration oversight must start at the local level. “Community involvement is crucial to prevent human trafficking practices,” he said on Tuesday (28/4/2026).
The socialization materials covered immigration regulations, early detection of social conflicts, and the importance of accurate population data. The speakers came from Immigration, National Unity and Politics, as well as the Population and Civil Registration Service.
Head of the Jakarta East Immigration Office, Pungky Handoyo, noted that cross-agency collaboration is key to oversight. The MoU signing was conducted to strengthen coordination among parties in handling cases.
This programme positions the sub-district as the initial point for migration oversight. The approach is expected to reduce the risks of TPPO and TPPM, which often involve cross-regional networks.
Immigration assesses that increasing community legal literacy is an important factor in prevention. With better understanding, residents are expected to be able to recognize early indicators of human trafficking practices.
This step is also aimed at creating a more orderly and secure migration system. Community-based oversight is deemed capable of strengthening community protection from exploitation risks.
