Commission XI House of Representatives Warns Against Food Supplies Rising in Price During Ramadan
The head of Commission XI of the House of Representatives, Mukhamad Misbakhun, has warned of the need to maintain food price stability during Ramadan and in the run-up to Eid al-Fitr. He hopes that adequate food supplies will not be accompanied by rising prices.
“I have just returned from Medan, and we discussed several matters there, firstly food inflation and food supply availability in the North Sumatra region. North Sumatra is one of the largest provinces in the Sumatran region, with a significant economic scale and a diverse population,” said Misbakhun on Thursday (26 February 2026).
During its visit to North Sumatra, Commission XI of the House of Representatives identified three key priorities. These include ensuring food supply, payment system restructuring, and the availability of monetary supply.
“These are our primary tasks. Specifically, we must ensure that whilst food is available, its price does not rise,” said Misbakhun.
He also highlighted the need to restructure the payment system in disaster-affected areas. He wants to ensure that people affected by disasters do not feel neglected or abandoned.
“Within the payment system, particularly in Sumatran regions that have been affected by disasters, I have discussed with stakeholders, including the Financial Services Authority, how to restructure systems for disaster-affected areas,” said Misbakhun.
“We need to restructure credit arrangements, whether through bank loans or financing, for those affected. We have asked the banking sector to actively support these efforts. We must protect the feelings of our brothers and sisters in disaster areas, especially during the holy month of Ramadan when emotions run high. As we approach Eid, many are still in temporary shelters or evacuation centres,” he concluded.
