Commission X of the Indonesian DPR asks the government to help pay part-time PPPK teachers' salaries
Jakarta – Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Lalu Hadrian Irfani, has urged the central government to intervene and help local governments pay the salaries of part-time PPPK teachers, given that payments are often late and some have not yet received their salaries. He said delays and uncertainty in paying PPPK part-time teachers should not continue. The state, he argued, must ensure the welfare of teachers who have contributed to educating the nation’s people. “They deserve to receive salaries that are decent and paid on time,” Lalu said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Thursday. He also called for a special policy from the central government via the Ministry of Basic Education and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) and the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) of the Republic of Indonesia to resolve the issue. According to him, the Mendikdasmen needs to promptly propose the budget requirements for paying PPPK part-time teachers through the Additional Budget Allocation (ABT) scheme, so that it can be allocated and disbursed immediately. “This is important so there is budget certainty and not to burden the local fiscal as it is currently limited,” he said. He emphasised that Commission X of the DPR RI will continue to monitor and advocate for the rights of PPPK part-time teachers to receive their due, because the welfare of teachers is a fundamental pillar in improving the quality of national education. “Don’t let those who are at the front line of education end up without certainty of welfare,” he added.
