Commission VI and Bulog Assure Sufficient Rice Supply in West Sumatra Until Early 2027
Padang (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives Andre Rosiade, along with the Head of Perum Bulog’s West Sumatra Region Darma Wijaya, has assured that rice supplies in the Land of the Minangkabau will be sufficient until early 2027.
“Currently, rice supplies in Bulog’s warehouses amount to 18,000 tonnes, and in the near future, there will be an additional 20,000 tonnes, making it sufficient for needs until early 2027,” said Deputy Chairman of Commission VI from West Sumatra, Andre Rosiade, in Padang on Friday.
According to the Deputy Chairman of Commission VI, who oversees state-owned enterprises among other areas, the rice supplies at Bulog in West Sumatra reflect that rice self-sufficiency and food security are well maintained. With the current rice stocks stored in local Bulog warehouses, he urged the public not to panic amid the potential impact of El Niño, which is expected to affect the agricultural sector.
During his visit to the Bulog warehouse, he stated that since 2025, Indonesia has no longer imported rice. This is because the government has continuously strived to maximise the food security or self-sufficiency programme.
“Since 2025, we have no more rice imports. And praise be to God, even without rice imports, rice stocks continue to be abundant,” he said.
On that occasion, he also touched on parties criticising the government’s food security policy, which should be accompanied by data, including solutions that can be implemented.
Meanwhile, the Head of Perum Bulog’s West Sumatra Region, Darma Wijaya, confirmed that Bulog currently has rice reserves of 18,000 tonnes. This amount is sufficient for the next four to five months.
This quantity will continue to increase because in the near future, there will be an additional shipment of 20,000 tonnes. Thus, the total of 38,000 tonnes of rice is projected to meet public needs until February or March 2027.
“Bulog’s rice supplies serve as a guarantee of food security for the public until early 2027, and those supplies will continue to arrive,” he said.
