The chairman of Commission V of the Indonesian Parliament, Lasarus, has raised concerns about extended queues at Gilimanuk Port that caused 17 mudik travellers to collapse. He is convinced there is a serious problem with how mudik passengers are being managed at the port.

“Clearly something is wrong with how mudik passenger control and situation management is being handled at Gilimanuk Port,” said Lasarus when contacted on Monday 16 March 2026.

For context, the port crossing operations and vessel service at Gilimanuk Port are managed by ASDP Indonesia Ferry. Consequently, Lasarus hopes the government will take serious action in response to the incident.

“We hope the government takes this matter seriously. It is the government’s responsibility to serve the community at this port,” he stated.

Furthermore, he has called for an investigation into the passenger congestion. This would prevent similar incidents from recurring at the port or other locations.

“This should be a lesson. To understand the problem, an investigation is needed to determine what caused it, so that it does not happen again and does not recur elsewhere,” he said.

ASDP Apologises

Severe congestion occurred at Gilimanuk Port in Bali. PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) issued an apology for the congestion affecting passenger transportation to Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi, East Java.

“ASDP apologises for the inconvenience experienced by some service users,” said Windy Andale, Secretary of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), as reported by Antara on Monday 16 March.

Berth III of Ketapang Port in Banyuwangi, East Java, has implemented a full turnaround pattern (arrival-discharge-departure) for support vessels to ease congestion and passenger queues at Gilimanuk Port in Bali.

“The implementation of the full turnaround pattern at Berth III of Ketapang Port began today, 15 March 2026, as part of service acceleration,” said Windy Andale.
