Commission III urges police to arrest perpetrator of sexual violence at Pati Islamic boarding school
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission III, Rano Alfath, has urged the police to immediately arrest AS (52), the suspect in the alleged sexual violence case against dozens of students at the Ndholo Kusumo Islamic boarding school in Pati, Central Java.
Rano, as stated in information received in Jakarta on Thursday, said this case must serve as proof that the police are serious in handling sexual crimes, especially since the victims are children and women in vulnerable positions.
“We urge the police to immediately arrest the boarding school supervisor who committed sexual crimes against his students. This case must be handled seriously and swiftly by law enforcement authorities because it concerns the safety and future of the victims,” he said.
Rano emphasised that the perpetrator must not be left free without detention, as it could create fear in society and increase the potential for pressure on the victims or their families.
Swift action by the police to arrest the suspect is deemed necessary so that society can see that the state is present to provide protection and justice for victims of sexual violence.
He also highlighted the timeline of the case handling. He said the case was previously handled by the Pati City Police Resort Criminal Investigation Unit in 2024, but it had not progressed optimally.
Therefore, he hopes that the police can pay serious attention so that this case can be resolved transparently, professionally, and in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
“The public has high expectations for the police to follow up on this case seriously and thoroughly. Swift and professional handling is important to maintain public trust in law enforcement institutions,” he stated.
He also asked the police to ensure that all victims are free from intimidation or any form of pressure. The state, he said, is obliged to ensure that victims receive protection and a sense of security.
“Do not let the victims be afraid or reluctant to report due to intimidation. These victims are children who must be protected, including some who are orphans,” he said.
Previously, the Pati Police Resort issued a second summons to AS. The first summons was issued on 4 May, but the individual did not appear without a clear explanation.
“Investigators issued the second summons on 7 May 2026,” said Pati Police Resort Chief Commissioner Pol Jaka Wahyudi through the Deputy Head of Criminal Investigation at Pati Police Resort, AKP Iswantoro, in Pati on Wednesday (6/5).
AS (52) is asked to comply with the summons to facilitate the legal process. If he fails to appear again, the police will carry out forced apprehension efforts in accordance with criminal procedure law.
Currently, the suspect’s whereabouts are still being searched for. Police suspect that the suspect is not in the Pati Regency area and has moved locations without informing his family or legal counsel.
