Jakarta – I Wayan Sudirta, a member of Commission III of the House of Representatives, has urged the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to conduct a thorough investigation into the case of an acid attack against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus.

“The National Police must treat this case as a priority with transparent and accountable oversight,” Sudirta said in a statement on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

He cautioned the police against wavering under any pressure or intervention from outside parties. According to him, public attention is now entirely focused on the professionalism of law enforcement in resolving the matter to its roots.

“I strongly urge the National Police to go beyond merely capturing the field perpetrators. Do not allow this case to end with apprehending the ‘right hand’ whilst the ‘brain’ behind it remains free to roam,” Sudirta stated firmly.

Furthermore, Sudirta stated that law enforcement authorities must be brave enough to expose the intellectual actors and backers who believe they possess legal immunity to orchestrate such a vicious attack.

“The rule of law in this republic cannot submit to any dark forces,” said the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) faction member.

He characterised the acid attack not merely as assault but as a declaration of war against humanity and a vile attempt to paralyse the nation’s critical thinking.

“Every drop of acid that wounds Andrie Yunus is a direct attack on the heart of our democracy,” he said.

Additionally, Sudirta deemed the acid attack terror as a cowardly act wholly inconsistent with the nation’s character and the lofty principles of Pancasila.

“If a human rights defender can be silenced through primitive means in public space, then in truth the sense of security of all Indonesian citizens is at stake,” he stressed.

Therefore, the legislator from Bali invited all elements of civil society to unite in monitoring every aspect of the case’s development.

“Let us guard this together. We do not need merely words of concern; what we need is real and transparent justice,” he added.

For him, resolving the Andrie case is at stake the honour of Indonesia as a constitutional state. Accordingly, the perpetrators must be apprehended and brought before the courts.
