Commission III Reminds Prosecutors That Amsal Sitepu's Acquittal Cannot Be Appealed
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission III, Habiburokhman, emphasised that the acquittal verdict for videographer Amsal Christy Sitepu cannot be subjected to legal remedies, whether appeals or cassation.
This was stated by Habiburokhman while reading the conclusions of the public hearing (RDPU) regarding Amsal’s case at the DPR RI Building on Thursday (2 April 2026).
“Commission III of the DPR RI affirms that in handling the case of Mr Amsal Christy Sitepu, in accordance with the spirit of the new KUHAP provisions, no legal remedies—whether appeals or cassation—can be taken against an acquittal,” said Habiburokhman.
“Yes, that is the recommendation we will convey to the leadership. We will submit it step by step. And of course, it will receive our intensive attention,” said Harli at the DPR RI Building.
Meanwhile, Amsal Sitepu expressed relief over Commission III’s conclusions, particularly regarding the certainty that the acquittal cannot be appealed.
He conveyed his thanks to all members of Commission III of the DPR for the meeting conclusions reported, including the reminder that the acquittal he received cannot be challenged.
He also admitted that concerns about the possibility of prosecutors appealing had been haunting him and his family.
“Actually, that fifth point is very relieving, sir, because last night regarding the appeal was still a topic of discussion among us, what if there is an appeal? There was still worry and fear for us, for me, my wife, my entire family, but today, the creative economy fighters in Indonesia have won. Free,” said Amsal.
Previously reported, the Medan District Court panel of judges issued an acquittal for Amsal Sitepu in the alleged corruption case involving the production of village profile videos in Karo Regency on Wednesday (1 April 2026).
Presiding Judge Mohammad Yusafrihardi Girsang stated that Amsal was not proven guilty, either in the primary or subsidiary charges.
“Acquitting the defendant from all charges by the public prosecutor. Restoring the defendant’s rights in his capacity, position, dignity, and honour,” said Mohammad Yusafrihardi Girsang.
The case originated from Amsal’s work as a videographer through his company, CV Promiseland, in the project to produce village profile videos in Karo Regency from 2020 to 2022.
In that project, Amsal offered a production cost of Rp 30 million per village to around 20 villages.
