Commission III Parliament: Thoroughly investigate Nizam Sapei's death to ensure justice
Jakarta — A member of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Bimantoro Wiyono, has urged Sukabumi Police to thoroughly investigate the death of Nizam Sapei in order to provide a sense of justice for the victim’s family.
“The state must be present to provide full protection and support to the victim’s family,” Bimantoro said during a parliamentary hearing (RDP) held by Commission III with Sukabumi Police Chief in the Commission III meeting room at Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday.
The hearing, attended by Nizam Sapei’s mother Lisnawati and her legal representatives, was held with the agenda of listening to public concerns regarding the handling of the legal case reported by the victim’s family.
Bimantoro also asked the Sukabumi Police Chief to promptly follow up on allegations of threats against Lisnawati so that the legal process can proceed without intimidation from any party.
According to him, law enforcement officials must ensure that every form of threat against the victim’s family can be exposed and acted upon firmly in accordance with applicable law.
During the forum, he also highlighted the lengthy timeline in handling the police report filed since 5 November 2024, which only showed further developments in February 2025.
“The excessively long period of case handling is a complaint from the public. This is where the professionalism and integrity of investigators are tested,” he asserted.
“We all have a conscience as parents. Imagine if this incident happened to our own families. Therefore, the legal process must be conducted in complete transparency,” he said.
Additionally, Bimantoro also asked investigators to explore all possible criminal elements, including allegations of violence, neglect, obstruction of parental access to the child, and the possibility of premeditation if found during the investigation process.
Commission III of Parliament, he continued, will continue to oversee developments in the case to ensure that the victim’s family obtains justice in the fairest manner possible.
“We believe the Indonesian National Police are capable of being the frontline of law enforcement and protection of society,” he said.
On this occasion, Bimantoro also expressed his deepest condolences to Ibu Lisnawati for the death of Nizam Sapei.
Nizam Sapei was a 12-year-old child who died, allegedly as a victim of abuse by his stepmother with the initials TR in Sukabumi, West Java.
