Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Rano Alfath, has urged the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to conduct a thorough investigation into the alleged assault that killed AT (14), a Madrasah Tsanawiyah student in Tual City, Maluku.

In a written statement received in Jakarta on Monday, Rano emphasised that the legal proceedings against the suspect, a Mobile Brigade (Brimob) officer identified by the initials Bripda MS, must be carried out openly without any attempt to conceal the facts.

“We demand that this case be investigated thoroughly, transparently and professionally. No party should attempt to cover up the facts or obstruct legal proceedings. The state must be present to ensure that justice is truly upheld,” Rano said.

He also affirmed that transparency is key to maintaining public trust in the police institution.

Furthermore, Rano called on investigators not to allow any party to intervene in the case, which claimed the life of a minor.

“We also request security guarantees for the victim’s family to protect them from pressure by certain parties during the pursuit of justice,” he said.

He further reminded that the protection of the victim’s family is a priority that must not be neglected. According to him, law enforcement officials are obligated to guarantee the safety and wellbeing of the family throughout all legal stages in Tual City.

In this case, he instructed that there must be no room for acts of intimidation that could deter the victim’s family from seeking justice.

“Ensure there is no intimidation of the victim’s family. They are entitled to protection and legal certainty. All proceedings must be conducted openly so the public can see that justice is truly upheld without discrimination,” he said.

Rano therefore affirmed that oversight of the case would continue through to trial.

Commission III of the House of Representatives, he stated, would monitor developments in the case on a regular basis to ensure that Polri’s commitment to professionalism is not merely a promise on paper.

“The commitment to transparency must be demonstrated through concrete action, from the investigation process through to trial. We will provide oversight to ensure that legal proceedings continue without intervention, without pressure, and without compromise on justice,” Rano said.
