Coffee stall at Pasar Santa offers barista training for Rp500,000
Jakarta (ANTARA) - One of the coffee kiosks at Pasar Santa in South Jakarta is offering barista training, or coffee brewing expertise, priced starting from Rp500,000 per person for the general public.
“We also act as consultants for those learning about coffee if they want to open a cafe or similar ventures; it all starts from here. If you want to learn, it’s just Rp500,000 here,” said the owner of Dunia Kopi kiosk, Suradi, when met at Pasar Santa in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Suradi stated that the training is open to various groups, including orphans, students from Islamic boarding schools, and people with disabilities.
The training can be attended every day with flexible learning methods and timings.
According to Suradi, the training aims to encourage the emergence of new coffee business actors, even for beginners who wish to open a cafe business.
“If you want to open a cafe, just Rp6 million is enough as long as you have tables,” he said.
The initial business needs will include basic equipment such as a coffee machine and a grinder or coffee bean mill.
Most enthusiasts interested in learning about coffee and becoming baristas are dominated by young people, even from abroad. This is because coffee has a specific market segment.
“Young people are the majority who want to learn about coffee,” he said.
Therefore, he hopes that the development of Indonesian coffee continues to grow, both domestically and in the global market.
“The main goal moving forward is for Indonesian coffee to shine both at home and abroad,” he stated.
Dunia Kopi at Pasar Santa is Suradi’s business, established in 2000. Every coffee bean it sells comes from local farmers and is now known internationally.
The South Jakarta Administrative City Government is promoting Pasar Santa as a centre for shopping coffee beans in an effort to boost the area’s economy.
The government’s activities include workforce training and UMKM bazaars so that residents, especially in South Jakarta, become more familiar with the coffee business.
There are 25 coffee bean traders at Pasar Santa selling a variety of coffee from both domestic and international sources.
