Coal Exports and Other Commodities to Be Controlled by PT DSI, Businesspeople Welcome It
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Indonesian Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto said the formation of a dedicated export-focused state-owned enterprise, PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia (PT DSI), has been well received by exporters of Natural Resource Commodities (SDA). He made the remarks after a briefing at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs this afternoon, Thursday 21 May 2026.
‘The response is relatively positive and they appreciate, especially that the aim is to optimise prices and also to strengthen Indonesia’s leverage in this commodity trade,’ Airlangga told reporters.
In the briefing, Airlangga explained that the creation of an export-focused state-owned enterprise is intended to strengthen the governance of exports of strategically national natural resource commodities.
The policy is also expected to support stability of the rupiah exchange rate, control inflation, spur economic growth, and strengthen Indonesia’s bargaining position in global trade.
As is known, PT DSI will begin data collection of export activities on 1 June. Airlangga also explained that in the implementation of future export activities, the reporting will only be submitted to PT DSI. The activity will be conducted over three months so that the system can operate effectively.
‘In other words, export transactions will still be carried out by companies with buyers, but export documentation will be handled by the Export-focused State-Owned Enterprise and this will be carried out on a phased basis until 31 December,’ he said.
The next phase will begin no later than 1 January 2027. In this phase, all export transaction processes will be fully conducted by PT DSI.
Therefore, he urged business actors to begin preparing for the transition period, including adjusting contracts that are already in place.
‘And of course this policy cannot run without cooperation, and the government will not restrict space for business activity and will implement governance to ensure the economic cake can be enjoyed sustainably. Of course, the entrepreneurs are asked to organise the transition period and adjust those contracts accordingly,’ he said.
