PARIS (AFP): Club Mediterranee will open new resorts in Cuba, Indonesia and China before the end of 1997, the head of the French travel group said at its annual general meeting.

The Cuban resort will open this Christmas, while the one at Bintan, Indonesia will go into operation in March 1997, Serge Trigano said.

Club Meds will also open on Hainan Island and in Kuoming in China, while negotiations are underway with insurance group Nippon Life to open a resort in southern Japan in 1998.

Other countries that Club Med is considering for future resorts include Burma, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, India, Panama and Albania.

Club Med, which has been restructuring its finances for the past two years, now is finding investment partners for its projects, rather than developing resorts on its own.

In 1993, 1.3 million people went on Club Med holidays. The company's goal is for a 400 million francs (US$80 million) profit for 1996-97.
