Climber death in Mt. Ciremai
CIREBON, West Java (JP): A mountain climber was found dead yesterday in a ravine of Mt. Ciremai crater in Kuningan regency, eight days after he went missing.
Kuningan police said Juhana, 18, a resident of Cikaso village, Jalaksana district, Kuningan regency, fell 200 meters to his death.
His body was retrieved at 12 p.m. yesterday.
Juhana, a high school graduate, went climbing with 14 other youths on Aug. 16 to celebrate the country's golden anniversary at the mountain peak.
Upon arriving at the summit, two of them, including Juhana, tried to descend into the steep crater which is about 200 meters deep. However, due to the harsh conditions, his companion changed his mind, leaving Juhana on his own.
When Juhana failed to return four hours later, the rest of the group decided to return home, hoping that he had gone down the mountain before them. But he never reached home.
On the second day of his absence, a Search and Rescue team started to look for him. They found his body yesterday. (lem)
