Clean Water Waqf Brings New Hope to Thousands in Oenai Village, NTT
The atmosphere of joy and gratitude enveloped Oenai Village, Kie District, South Central Timor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, as the Al-Qur’an Waqf Board (BWA) inaugurated its 65th Clean Water Waqf facility on Thursday (11/6/2026). The provision of this clean water infrastructure is welcome news for a community that for years has faced limited access to clean water. The inauguration was lively and full of warmth. The BWA delegation was welcomed with a local traditional procession, traditional dance performances, hadrah shalawat, and various other customary welcoming ceremonies. Residents of Oenai Village and Napi Village attended and filled the event location alongside community leaders and local government representatives. This waqf programme was built with a 4,200-metre HDPE pipe installation that channels water directly to residents’ homes. Its benefits are felt by residents of Oenai Village and parts of Napi Village, including one mosque and one integrated health service post (posyandu). Overall, this clean water facility serves 127 families, or approximately 1,055 individuals. Present at the event were BWA’s Director of Programmes and Fundraising, Ir. Heru Binawan, and BWA’s Director of Networking and Al-Qur’an Distribution, Ustadz Hazairin Hasan. In his remarks, Heru expressed appreciation to the community for supporting the presence of this waqf programme in Oenai Village. ‘We thank the people of Oenai for allowing their village to be built with the BWA Clean Water Waqf. We hope residents can maintain and care for this facility for as long as possible. As long as this waqf is maintained and utilised, insya Allah, rewards will continue to flow to the donors who have given waqf,’ said Heru via a written statement. In addition to inaugurating the clean water facility, BWA distributed gift packages to residents containing soap and other hygiene supplies. This activity serves as an important symbol of maintaining environmental cleanliness and family health alongside the increased access to clean water. The event’s climax was marked by the symbolic opening of a water tap, greeted by applause and the happy smiles of residents. The water flowing from the tap not only signifies the operation of the clean water facility but also symbolises the arrival of new hope for the community. Through this 65th Clean Water Waqf, BWA hopes the benefits felt by residents will continue to flow, just as the rewards continue to flow for the waqf donors who contributed to making it a reality.
