Clash victims get donation
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Social Services Justika S. Baharsjah on Monday donated Rp 5 million (US$667) each to the families of 15 victims killed in the Nov. 13 incident.
She also contributed another Rp 200,000 each to 39 people who were injured during the Black Friday clash and still undergoing medical treatment at several hospitals, such as the Ciptomangunkusumo General Hospital and St. Carolus hospital in Central Jakarta.
The Rp 82.8 million donation was handed over to the local chapter of the Indonesian Red Cross, which was represented by its chairwoman Uga Wiranto, wife of Minister of Defense & Security/Chief of Armed Forces Gen. Wiranto.
Justika expressed her wish that other social institutions would be encouraged to join in the effort to alleviate suffering.
"We donated sincerely and we meet the ministry's responsibility to help those who suffer misfortune," she told reporters.
After handing over the donation, Justika visited the Cipto and Carolus hospitals to see the latest condition of the injured, who included five-year-old Ayu Ratna Sari and Irwansyah, a student of Jakarta University in East Jakarta. (ivy)
