Ciwidey Hot Springs: The Allure of Jiwanta Hot Spring
Long neglected and once considered inadequate for tourists, the legendary Cimanggu hot springs in Ciwidey, Bandung Regency, have now been revamped with a fresh new look. Under new management, the natural tourism area has undergone a full restoration under the name Jiwanta Heritage Hot Spring. The initiative aims to revive Cimanggu’s former glory with modern, aesthetically pleasing facilities tailored to visitor expectations. Despite the area’s immense tourist potential, especially during weekends and long holidays, the recent upgrades include swimming pools, restaurants, parking areas, and changing rooms, all designed to meet guest expectations, according to Ashram, who spoke at the site on Monday, 25 May 2026.
A key attraction of the revamped Cimanggu is the modern, aesthetic structure named The Cave, an artificial grotto. Ashram explained that the concept was introduced to offer tourists a new experience to unwind from urban routines. Inside this iconic building, facilities include an artificial waterfall, lighting, and music installations, inspired by Jiwanta’s meaning of ‘calm soul’. Visitors can not only soak but also express joy with family. At night, the artificial grotto area comes alive with aesthetic lighting.
Unlike other West Java hot springs such as Sari Ater in Subang or Cipanas in Garut, Ashram claims Jiwanta Cimanggu’s natural hot spring has unique characteristics. Despite high sulphur content, the sulphur smell is not overly pungent. The water’s pH level is particularly favourable for skin care and health.
