Civil Service Police Crack Down on Street Vendors and Illegal Parking in Glodok, 60 Motorcycles Targeted in Clamp Operation
JAKARTA — Ahead of the long weekend, a joint team from the Civil Service Police (Satpol PP) and the West Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department (Sudishub) cracked down on illegal parking and street vendors (PKL) in the Glodok Chinatown area, Tambora, West Jakarta, on Thursday (2/4/2026).
Head of the Public Order and Tranquility Section (Kasi Trantibum) of the West Jakarta Satpol PP, Edison Butar Butar, stated that the enforcement focused on sidewalks that have often been misused.
“In accordance with Regional Regulation No. 8 of 2007 on sidewalk order, we are enforcing the rule that public facilities, including sidewalks, must be kept clean for pedestrians. This is how we create a comfortable environment for people to move around,” Edison told reporters at the location on Thursday.
“Earlier, we advised seven street vendors (PKL) not to trade here, and there were 60 motorcycles parked on the sidewalks that were subjected to OCP (clamp operation) together with the Transportation Department and supporting units from TNI-Polri,” he said.
The enforcement was carried out to maintain order in the Glodok Chinatown tourist and culinary area, which is expected to be crowded with visitors during the long holiday until Sunday (5/4/2026).
Although it coincides with the long weekend, Edison emphasised that the action is based on regulations, not solely due to increased tourist activity.
“Clearly, our duty is according to the rules: no illegal parking or vendors on sidewalks, so we carry out enforcement like that,” he said.
He added that enforcement in this area has been conducted routinely over the past two months and has shown positive results.
“Yes, since leading up to Chinese New Year until now, alhamdulillah, it has decreased. It’s not like two months ago; actually, it has had quite an impact, and the public feels comfortable now, which can be seen directly,” said Edison.
Head of the Implementation Unit (Kasatpel) of the Tambora Sub-District Transportation Sub-Department, Zulkifli, stated that collaboration with Satpol PP is important to tidy up the tourist and business centre area.
He mentioned that illegal parking often arises due to unofficial parking attendants directing visitors to park on the road body or sidewalks.
“In response to that, we indeed join with the three pillars for action if there are parking attendants who are not in accordance with the rules or provisions, and we even take firm action according to the applicable rules,” explained Zulkifli.
Zulkifli urged the public not to follow directions from illegal parking and to utilise the official parking locations provided by the government.
