City to rebuild 17 school buildings

JAKARTA (JP): The city administration plans to renew 17 city-
owned elementary school buildings throughout its jurisdiction in
the near future.

An assistant of the city secretary, Prawoto Danoemihardjo,
said on Saturday that the schools needed total renovation due to
their poor condition. "They are no longer appropriate to be used
as schools," he said.

"The buildings will be demolished and new buildings will be
built on the locations," Prawoto said.

Prawoto said that the students will be relocated to nearby
schools so they can continue studying until the construction
activities are completed.

He said that the project will be financed by the city budget
and the city administration will hold a meeting with the city
council to discuss that. "The project costs have yet to be
calculated," he said, refusing to say when the project will
start.

The city council approved the project earlier this year.
