City detectives get new boss
JAKARTA (JP): City police chief Maj. Gen. Noegroho Djajoesman on Wednesday installed Col. Alex Bambang Riatmojo on Tuesday as the new head of the city police detective directorate, replacing Col. Gories Mere.
A 1977 graduate of the Police Academy, Bambang was previously deputy secretary at the National Central Bureau (NCB)-Interpol.
Before serving at the country's Interpol office, Bambang, who holds a Phd from the Kennedy Western University in Idaho in the United States, was chief of the Bekasi police.
Gories, who for years has run up an impressive record in solving difficult crime cases in the capital, will be soon installed as Student Regiment Commander at the Police Academy in Semarang, Central Java.
Gories himself graduated from the academy in 1975.
In his speech Noegroho thanked Gories for his success in solving several cases such as the kidnapping of businessman Syamsul Nursalim, the home-made bomb explosion at Tanah Tinggi apartments, Central Jakarta, and drugs transactions which involved foreign citizens.
He urged the new detectives chief to maintain this success and to develop innovations to solve crimes, especially those which remain problematic. (jun)
