City cagers off to SEA meet

JAKARTA (JP): Jakarta's basketball team will represent Indonesia in the Southeast Asian under-22 men's basketball tournament from June 23 to June 30 in Bandar Sri Begawan, Brunei.

The 12-man team, mainly made up of members from the Indonesian Basketball League team, Kobatama, was named for the regional meet by the Indonesian Basketball Association. It won the spot after beating East Java 72-70 in Surakarta, Central Java, in a trial on June 8.

Indonesia will join host Brunei, Vietnam and the Philippines in Group B of the round-robin tournament. Group A consists of Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia.

The week-long competition is a qualifier for this year's Asian basketball championship in Shanghai, China. The championship will be held in November, but the schedule has yet to be fixed. (arf)
