CISFED urges Indonesia to adopt a more assertive stance on the Gaza humanitarian crisis
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Center for Islamic Studies in Finance, Economics, and Development (CISFED) is urging the Indonesian government to adopt a more assertive political stance on the causes of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Palestine, resulting from Israeli attacks.
βThe humanitarian situation in Gaza and the West Bank has reached a deeply concerning level, with strong indications of violations of international law,β stated CISFED Chairman Farouk Abdullah Alwyni in his remarks quoted in Jakarta on Saturday.
Farouk explained that the current conditions in Palestine represent a clear violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter, the Geneva Conventions, and the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court. He emphasised that global accountability is an absolute requirement to protect civilians who continue to be victims of military aggression.
The impact of the conflict is no longer abstract for Indonesia following the incident involving the deaths of Indonesian peacekeeping forces and the takeover of the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza.
According to him, these events provide authentic proof that the interests and safety of Indonesian citizens have been directly affected by expansionist policies.
In addition to geopolitical aspects, CISFED is calling on the government to conduct strict oversight of foreign investments in strategic sectors, particularly energy, that are affiliated with Israeli corporate networks. One particular focus is the presence of PT Ormat Geothermal Indonesia, which is deemed to require more in-depth due diligence processes.
